Gall Stones

Description:

These are small stones of varying composition that form in the gall bladder. There are three types of stones- cholesterol, pigment and mixed, the third being the most common. Calcium salts are normally found in varying proportions in the stones. Gall stones may be present for years without causing any symptoms. But severe pain particularly on the upper right-hand side of the abdomen, indicates gall stones. There may be nausea, vomiting and indigestion. If the stones pass into the common bile duct, the resulting obstruction can cause jaundice.
